With its OrganiQ material, Kesseböhmer has created a meaningful alternative to solid wood. While solid wood does store greenhouse gases and is biodegradable, not enough wood is growing back in the world to meet the rising demand. To protect biodiversity and the climate effectively, around two billion cubic metres of wood including the bark can be harvested globally. In 2020, the amount of felled timber was around 4.3 to 5 billion cubic metres - meaning that up to two billion cubic metres too much are being taken from forests every year. With wood alternatives such as OrganiQ, which consists of equal parts of rapidly growing natural hemp and kenaf fibres, the global timber resources are not put under any additional strain.
